BIRTH IN WATER
Water birth has been practiced successfully for the last 30 years. It is considered a comforting method for mother and baby and does not carry any more risk than other birth methods. Water birth should be carried out by an experienced team in a fully equipped hospital with suitable conditions for emergency response. Before the mother-to-be
education would be appropriate. The birthing pool is filled with water at a temperature of 37 degrees, the water temperature is kept constant, and hygiene and disinfection are ensured continuously.
Communication and a sense of trust are important between the expectant mother and the delivery team. In the last stages of birth, when birth approaches, water is entered and immediately after birth.
Then the baby can be given to the mother. Babies born in water were found to be calmer than babies born by other means due to the similarity to their environment in the womb. Birth in water relaxes the mother and baby, relaxes the muscles, and reduces stress with the effect of water. At birth, the mother’s movements become easier and she feels the pains lighter; The risks of birth trauma, episiotomy or spontaneous rupture are reduced. Water birth is applied in risk-free pregnancies. Thus, the birth experience is remembered as happy rather than troublesome and stressful. It may not be suitable for vaginal bleeding and infections, premature births, large babies, multiple pregnancies or if there are other risk factors. This method is increasingly preferred by expectant mothers. It is applied by our experienced team in our hospital.
