BIRTH IN WATER Water birth has been successfully practiced for the last 30 years. It is considered as a relaxing method for mother and baby and does not pose more risk than other birth methods. Water birth should be carried out by an experienced team in a fully equipped hospital with suitable conditions to be able to intervene in emergencies. Before the birth of the expectant mother education would be appropriate. The birth pool is filled with water at 37 degrees and the water temperature is kept constant, hygiene and disinfection are provided continuously. Communication and trust are important between the expectant mother and the delivery team. In the last stages of the birth, when the birth approaches, the water is entered and then the baby can be given to the mother. Babies born in water were found to be calmer than babies born by other means due to the similarity to the environment in which they were in the womb. Birth in water relaxes the mother and baby, relaxes the muscles, and the stress decreases with the effect of water. At birth, the mother’s movements become easier and the pains feel lighter; The risk of birth trauma, episiotomy, or spontaneous rupture is reduced. Water birth is applied in pregnancy without risk. Thus, the birth experience is remembered as happy rather than troublesome and stressful. It may not be suitable for vaginal bleeding and infections, premature births, large babies, multiple pregnancies, or if there are other risk factors. This method is increasingly preferred by expectant mothers. It is applied by our experienced team in our hospital.
